A Clear Bias Engagement Example

Each

Engagement

is Unique

The Engagement illustrated here is a composite of activities. Selected from a large set of possible activities. Each engagment is unique, reflecting scope, needs and culture.

The focus here is to illustrate a "flow of events". Giving you an idea of what goes on. Or, more correctly, a view of one possible scenario. Details will be kept to a minimum.

We hope you will take advantage of our Pre-Engagement Conversation. There is no cost and time is respected.

Engagement Example

I must stress that Agreements, Sessions and their Composition vary greatly.  Structed To meet specific clients needs.
Workshops are somewhat different from Coaching Agreements. Althoguht, whether as one-on-one coaching or group event,  the structured material fits into the very personal experience.

Purpose: Exploring to see if this would be a good fit for both of us.

Engagement Length: 3 months.  This is not a contract, continuing into the next month is always up to you.

Contract: None.  We write out am Agreemet of our mutual understanding and expectations.  I encourage modifying or rewriting the Agreement any time either of us would find that valuablle.

Monthly Fee: Varies widely.  Takes into account how much time we need to spend together, phone or onsite, How much preparation time I need to put int outside of our sessions, and how much time pure business consulting is needed for speical issues or projects.
The Majority of new clients start with $800 per month.  It Can certainly be lower and can go much higher.

The Pre-Engagement Conversation

In the case of coaching a business owner and his direct reports, generally only the business owner would participate.
  • A Pre-Engagement Conversation is required prior to any Coaching Agreement or Sessions.
  • Coaching differs from Consulting.  You are responsible for executing on the action plans.  It is my responsibility to get you clarity of tasks and direction.  Dependant on our agreement, you are expected to invest a minumum of 3 to 5 hours of homework per 2 week period.  Some of it directly applied to tasks you are taking, a portion in deeper understanding of tools and concepts I provide you, and answering questions I need to know.
  • Other engagment details are to be spelled out in our formal agreement.
To be signed and returned the next day.

Arrangement of Monthly Sessions
  • Two One Hour Sessions per month.  Phone or In-Person.  (I must stress that this will vary by Agreement)
  • We are both required to complete any necessary or assigned tasks prior to the next session.  This must be a solid commitment and performed with high professionalism.

Expectated in a Coaching Session

  • Complete honesty.
  • You bring 100% attention for the complete time of the Session.  I will take a pulse prior to beginning.
  • You complete all work necessary before the next session.  Be prepared to fully engage.
  • I will prepare for each session to make it exactly what I feel you need.  This may include assignments for you, tools to use, forms to fill out, questions that I need answering.  I will also prepare by reviewing and assessing the materials we exchanged during the last session.
  • I am there to bring you to a high level of performance.
  • I am not going to act as would a friend, family member, co-working, boss, or any one else in your life.
  • As a coach, I am completely impartial, my interest is in making you a success.  As such I will, at times, be very frank.  Calling you on things if I believe I am getting smoke and mirrors, or not the whole picture.  Your values and motives are yours.  Unless I feel they are holding you back.  Then we will work on that over time.
Reocurring Activities
Each Session (phone or in person):
  • Centers you on your vision, direction and goals.
  • Action Plans will center and clearify your own thoughts on short term goals and actions.  Puts you into specific actions on them.  Tracks accountability and progress.
  • Identifies issues. Assignes Leadership & Action plan homework. Assess value of previous time period. Tracks ongoing committments and goals.
  • On-site meeting to take pulse, address need for plan adjustments, Owner to bring in direct reports as needed, On-site is predominantly a consultiative meeting.
  • A tentative plan for a team off-site workshop with your direct reports or others in your sphere.
  • Exchanging emails, text etc. with a maximum 24 hr turn around by me.  Usually within 5 hrs, or sooner.  These are in direct connection to issues we are working on in our current sessions.
  • Short ad hoc calls are permitted within the limits of our Agreement.  Usually I will call back within 2 hours.  These need to state a clear question.

90 Day Agreement Closing Session
The close out meeting for the 90 day period will include, at least, an executive summary of the engagement and results, agreement on engagement accomplishments, a value scorecard, a refreshed skeleton document to keep you self directed toward your goals and next steps.
This occurs if you are continuuing another 3 month engagement or not.  If continuing, we write up a new agreement.  It is about time!  Even if we have rewritten or modified the engagment during the past 90 days.

An engagement will include many different types of documentation, steps, agendas, discussion points and reading materials.

You will have to sign up to enjoy all the specific benefits.  I sincerely hope you will.  It is a great journey.
